GIFTS FOR SOLDIERS.
PRESENTATIONS AT HINDS. There was a large attendance of residents of Hinds and surrounding districts at a social and dance held in the Centennial Hall in honour of Driver L. Davison and Private :,S. S'. Bennett. Sir J. Diavidson presided. Mr H. C. B. Wit-hell, on behalf of residents presented the guests with gold l medals and; parcels of extra comforts.
A gold medal was handed to* bliss Ku<ra Stewart on behalf of her sister, Sister T. Stewart, who is serving overseas with the First Echelon. Soldiers’ parcels were presented to Privates E. Noble, I. SlacKay and 0. Chvnsworth. Parcels containing useful gifts w r ere handed to’ Driver (Davison from Ealing residents as he has resided in that district for the last two year's. On behalf of the Board of Managers of the Hinds Presbyterian Church, Sir A. Donaldson presented Private Bennett with' an evershar- pencil suitably inscribed. .......
Slusic for dancing was supplied by Sir W. Rankin. Extras were played by Sirs J. Ross and bliss bfaclvay. A Monte Carlo was won by bliss J. Sim and Sir Gilbert! Hawke. Sir Lowe was blaster of Ceremonies. - At the conclusion of morning service at the Presbyterian Church yesterday the Rev. W. Carroll, on behalf of the congregation, presented Driver L. Davison with an eversharp pencil suitably inscribed. A similar gift is to be forwarded to Private R. Johnston, a member of the church, who is serving overseas. RIFLE CLUB PRESENTATION.
Private W. SI. Holland, a member of the Ashburton Defence Rifle Club, was met by members of the Club on Saturday afternoon. The president (Sir F. Porter) made a presentation to Private Holland. He is the fourth member of the Club to go overseas.
