SHIP SUNK BY ENEMY ACTION. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, November 29. In response to an inquiry to-night, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, said that the next-of-kin of tho passengers and Neiv Zealand members of the creiv on board the vessel Avhicli Avas the victim of enemy action on Wednesday Avere notified before his announcement published to-day. The Postmaster-General (the Hon. P. C. Webb) said that no mails Avere dispatched by the vessel in question, apart from one bag containing 41b weight of consignees’ letters.
YOUNG NEW ZEALAND SAILOR.
WANGANUI, November 29
The youngegt in the crew ol the Port Brisbane, reported sunk by an enemy raider ofl the Australian coast, is Alexander Neil Dawson, aged 18, a son of Mrs E. Eaulton, Marton. He is believed to have been taken prisoner. Cabled advice to this effect has been received by bis mother irom a Port Brisbane officer who escaped. A cadet in the Port Brisbane, Alexander Dawson, is the elder son of the late Alexander Dawson, formerly chief postmaster at Wanganui and Palmerston North. He was educated at the Hastings Boys’ High School and the Sir John Cass Nautical College, London, and had been employed hv the Port Line for 15 months.
