FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From the “Guardian,” Nov. 27, 1890) The Patience Company.—The Ashburton Patience Company, will play at the Theatre Royal, Timaru, on Wednesday next, December 3. They travel by special train, and will pick up passengers at Orari and Temuka, dropping them on the return journey. The Company will also play at Ralcaia at an early date, not yet definitely fixjod upon. •'
Dummyism.—The subject of dummyism had a place in the speech given at Wyndham by Mr Richardson recently and: one stofy that lie related greatly tickled his hearers. A man who wished to secure a good piece of land adjacent to his own got a neighbour to put in an application, and lodged the necessary money at the Land Office. The neighbour drew the section, and, continued Mr Richardson, “he must have had a scrap of conscience left; for, when ho found he had secured the land, and that it was remarkably good, he came to the conclusion that it was a most wicked thing to he a dummy, and he has the land, and they say, the money also.”
TWENTV-FIVE YEARS ACO. (From the “Guardian,” Nov. >27, 1915) Belgian Relief Fund.—A meeting of the Belgium Relief Committee was held this afternoon, Mr H.. F. Nicoll presiding. The chairman reported that the credit at the bank was £IQSI 3s 6d. They had paid all the local bodies’ contributions up to tlio end of September, amounting to £l2O 11s 6d. If they paid up the local bodies’ contributions to the end of the year, it would leave a balance of £940 to credit. It was decided' to forward a cheque of £9OO to the relief of the Belgians. In answer to a question the chairman stated Ashburton County had forwarded about £IB,OOO to the Belgian' Relief Funds.
