RED CROSS SOCIETY.
LISMORE SUB-CENTRE’S WORK. After 14 months of very successful work ,the Lismore sub-centre of tlie Red Cross Society held its final meeting of tho year in the schoolroom. There was an excellent attendance. After the National Anthem had been sung, the meeting stood in silence as a tribute to the memory of the late Dr. Miller. The president (Mrs T. Mulligan) reviewed the work done duriug the year. Since the sub-centre was formed in the first month of the war, first aid, home nursing and hygiene classes had been conducted, every candidate passing in every examination. In the hygiene examination every candidate gained honours, and three students bad qualified as Y.A.D’s. . The Women’s Division was specially mentioned for its consistent aid in many directions. Mrs F. Curtis in a most interesting and informative way outlined the work in hand for the present and for the year to come. In spite of a large amount raised for the Sick and Wounded Fund, it was still urgently necessary to continue the efforts for tlie sake of the thousands of men in camp in New Zealand.
Mr Addis voiced Lismore’s indebtedness to Mrs Curtis in consenting to attend the meeting, and a vote of thanks to the visitors was carried with acclamation.
On Mrs Curtis mentioning that the Red Cross- Society had the action of the Jervis Bay to thank for tho safety of a large shipment of cases on the Rangitiki, an offering was spontaneously given as a tribute to the heroism of Captain Fergen, V.C., and his gallant crew.
A delicious supper served by members of the Women’s Division brought an enjoyable and enthusiastic meeting to a close.
