ADJUSTABLE PRICE.

THE SALE OF WOOL-PACK®. I ~ ' USE OF TWTN'FJ REGULATED. Throughout New Zealand at the present time wool-packs are being sold by merchants at a price liable to adjustment. Speaking to a “Guardian” reporter this morning local grain merchants said that the Government will set a fixed price for packs hut as this 1 has not yet been announced they are selling at a price which in their opinion will lie as near as possible to that fixed. Flax packs are made at Foxton, while jute packs can be imported from, India. To give protection to the New Zealand industry merchants importing packs must take a certain proportion of the local ones. The price likely to bo fixed will probably be based on the average cost of the two types, it was stated. By Gazette Notice the Government lias also fixed the size of packs at 42 inches, a measure which is considered to bo advantageous for shipping. Farmers, however, maintain that costs will rise because of the increased cartage and railage, the increased number of packs, and the need for alterations to presses which were built for the 48-inch pack.

It has also been announced that for every 12 packs farmers may use one hunk of liemp seaming twine because of a shortage of material for its manufacture. Hemp twine may not be used for other sewing purposes, however, sisal twine or jute twine having to be used for this work. The sisal twine seems much superior to the jute type in strength.
