Mr W. H. Amos has been appointed an officer of the Canterbury Chapter of the New Zealand Institute of Seeretniries.
Miss June Vincent, of the staff of Hefford and Company, was presented with a fountain pen before leaving to take up a position at the Timaru Public Hospital,
Mr J. Southward, formerly headmaster .of the Burwood School, arrived in Ashburton this afternoon, and on Monday morning will take up duty as headmaster of tho Allenton School.
Mrs M. A. Constable was welcomed at the last meeting of the Mid-Canter-bury Federation? of Women’s Institutes, as the new member of the Dominion Council, taking the place of Mi's F. Curtis, who has retired from the position.
Mr S. G. Holland, M.P., who in the absence of Captain A. N. 'Grigg, M.P., on military service, is helping to administer the affairs of the MidCanterbury Electorate, will be in Ashburton on Thursday next, Show Day. He is desirous of meeting local people who may have questions to lay before him.
Dr. Thorne, superintendent of the Wellington Hospital for the last six years, has resigned on the ground that his health is such that he cannot continue much longer. Dr. Thorne recently spent a month in the North but his health lias not improved as. much as ho hoped. The chairman (Mr Castle) said that Trentham Camp added greatly to the work Dr. Thorne was doing (says a P(ress Association telegram.
