THE WAR EFFORT
CO-OPERATION NECESSARY.
NO TIME FOR DIFFERENCES.
(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, October 30.
Instancing the example of the men and women of Britain, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, a member of the War Cabinet, appealed at a luncheon gathering of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association for the whole-heart-ed co-operation of everybody in New Zealand in the war effort.
If thousands of young men wero needed overseas, he said, and production had to be maintained, it was up to those who remained to see that it was maintained. The present was no time for differences in politics or creed. He was not one of those who thought that if the United Kingdom fell, the Empire would fall too. Every part of the Empire had its part to play and should play that part to the end.
Air Coates referred to tho situation in the Middle East and the Pacific, with its implications and graver responsibilities for New Zealand, and mentioned the importance of complete understanding on the war policy which existed between Australia and New Zealand.
