ST. JAMES THEATRE. “MARSHAL OF MESA OITY” A well-balanced and excellently varied double star programme is scheduled for presentation to-night and again on Friday at • 2 p.m. and at 7.45 p.m. In “Marshal of Mesa City” one of the year’s finest Westerns is screened. Dealing in exciting and suspenseful fashion with the daring exploits of a. young peace officer’s efforts to (bring law and order to a frontier town under the dominant rule of an outlaw sheriff, “The Marshal of Mesa City” presents George O’Brien in a dramatic and action-packed film. There is gunplay in the picture, and action galore, as was the case, during the period upon which the production was based, but thrills depend less upon shooting than upon suspense and twists of plot. Virginia Vale provides the. romantic interest. The associate feature “That’s Right You’re Wrong” stars Kay lvyser and his famous band, Adolphe Menjou and boasts such feature player names as that of May Robson. Edward EVerett Horton, Lucille Ball, Denis O’Keefe and Roscoo Karns.
SOCIAL AND DANCE. To' raise funds for the- Winchmore sub-centre of the Red Cross Society a card social and dance was organised. Mrs W. Wit hell and Mr Templeton won the 500 tournament, while the euchre was won by Mrs P. Prebble aind Mr T. Dawson. Novelty dances were won by Miss G. Shearer and Mr K. Shearer, and Miss N. Kelly and Mr J. Witbell. Music was supplied by Dabourn’s orchestra and Mr P. Withell was master of ceremonies.
