PATRIOTIC FUND

USE OF MONEY AFTER WAR.

LORD GALWAY’S ASSURANCE (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, October 30. “I can assure you that there is not a single word of truth in the assertion being made by some people that money sent to the central patriotic fund will ultimately be taken over by the /Government/’ declared the GovernorGeneral (Lord Galway),, when he addressed the Canterbury Patriotic Fund committee to-day. “If there was any money left in the central fund at the end of the war,” said his Excellency, “it would bo allocated by the board and not by the Government, for the relieving of distress amongst soldiers and their dependants. glider no circumstances would the money be used by the Government.”

Touching upon the work of the Lady Galway Guild, his Excellency said the response had been amazing. A phenomenal amount of clothing had been collected, and it was estimated that there were six tons of clothing that had been shipped or was packed ready for dispatch. In conclusion, 'his Excellency expressed the hope that fche Royal A r Force and the Navy would so dent the German war machine that it would not function efficiently. “Only then can we say that we have turned the corner and prepare for the day when the power of the aggressor will be broken to establish a just peace and have happier times again.”
