HEAVY ATTACKS.
ON THE WESTERN SECTOR.
GREEKS SLOWLY WITHDRAWING. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 2.10 p.m.) LONDON. October 30. The Associated Press of Gjreat Britain correspondent at Athens says that the Italians continued heavy attacks along the western sector of the Greek front, apparently driving toward Janina. The heaviest fighting occurred on the road, to Janina. The Greeks are slowly withdrawing toward their main defences, according to plan. Artillery was used on a largo scale. Although the Italian mechanised units are almost useless, the Italians are attempting another approach on the Janina Road from-the west, hut they made little progress. There is no indication that the Italians have encroached on Yugoslavian •territory. The Greek press declares that competent sources deny the German News Agency report that Hungary has approved of the Italian invasion of Greece. Greeks in N’orth-Epirus, which the Italians call Suoqzvfrn Albaik, have issued a proclamation saying: “We are thei first victims of Italian Imperialism and appeal to Epireans to unshrinkingly serve Greece.” The Dodecanese Youth Movement has issued a statement saying: “Dodecanese citizens, united and disciplined under the King’s leadership, join, hands with all free Greeks.” The Associated Press of Great Britain’s correspondent at Rome says that Count Ciano is believed to he e.n route to Tirana, A Moscow message says: “The ‘Red Star’ says the British Fleet are masters of the Eastern Mediterranean. There will be a hard, long battle for Greece.
