AIMS OF THE AXIS.
TO SMOTHER BRITISH BASES. THE POSITION OF TURKEY. LONDON, October 29. The semi-official 'German newspaper “Diplomatische Korrespondenz” says Turkey may shortly receive an ultimatum similar to Greece’s. It adds: “Wherever English bases and hideouts still exist, they must be extirpated in the interests of the European community. This naturally applies also to the Mediterranean.”
A Bucharest message says Rumanian ships in Turkish waters have been advised to return home immediately. So far Turkey has made n;o official announcement concerning the latest act of aggression by the Italians,, blit it is believed in Ankara that she will adopt an attitude of‘non-belligerence. This does not mean that Turkey is not interested in the outcome. It,was stated in Istanbul to-day that Greece had not asked for aid and that Turkey’s attitude would be governed by future developments.
