“NECK-AND-NECK.”
CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENCY.
ROOSEVELT JUST BEGINNING.
(United PreßS Association. —Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, October 30. .
In a New York call-up poll 53 per cent, of tilt, popular vote: was for Pi-e sident Roosevelt and 47 per cent, fon Mr Willkie. The call-up, honitever, warns: “A lead of 53 per cent, for the President is actually a neck and neck race, because owing to surplus democratic majorities in the Southern States a Democratic President normally requiries about 52 per cent, from the nation to win. Willkie gains have been, so widespread that letcir reports from the survey will probably shew the two candidates about oven in electoral votes or with Mr Willkie slightly ahead It must not be forgotten, however, that President Roosevelt’s inten sive campaign of speaking was just- begun and forthcoming radio* addresses may halt and reverse the Willkie trend.”
