JURY DISAGREES.
AUCKLAND THEFT CASE. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, October 30. The trial of the law clerk, Phyllis Olive Barnett, aged 31, on two charges of theft, which had lasted for five days, was concluded before Mr Justice Fair in the Supreme Court to-night. After an unusually prolonged retirement, the jury failed to reach agreement, and a new trial was ordered. The charges wore that tho accused had stolen from her employer, Robert Urquhart, solicitor, a cheque for '£966 on April 26, and a cheque for £220 11s 8d on June 28, or alternatively that she' had fraudulently failed to account for these sums.
