(Received This Day, 12.15 p.m.) ROME, October 14. The radio, supplementing official details of tjhO'McditerraneanViayal battle referred to yesterday says : “A flotilla of three Italian torpedo-boats in the Sicily Channel discovered a British naval squadron. The flotilla-leader ordered filltsteam ahead and attacked the British cruiser with three torpedoes at a distance of about a quarter of a mile. They also fired several gunshots. Our torpedo-boats had to suffer under a heavy pounding from the cruiser. The flotilla-leader was heavily struck and sank with the commander on deck, reporting by wireless to the base: ‘lt is sinking.’ “A second torpedo-boat also sank after being struck by several gunshots. Fire broke out aboard one of our destroyers which came to the aid of the torpedo-boats. The destroj’efi was taken in tow, hut proved unable to proceed. Consequently it was blown up by its own crew, who took to the boats. They saAV the British cruiser sink.”
