SAVED DAMAGED PLANE. COMPANION OF RECENT V.C. LONDON, September 20. Pilot Officer C. A. H. Connor, a Canadian, has been awarded an immediate. D'.F.C. for piloting a- damaged Hampden bomber to its base alter an attack on barge concentrations at Antwerp on the night of September 15, states tire Air Ministry bulletin. His wireless operator and air gunner fin this attack was Sergeant John Hannah, who received the V.C. The bomber squadron to which Hannah and Connor belong was formed in Scotland in 1917. A few months later it began operations in Francis. In one operation on a. stormy night towards the end. of the war. six pilots carried out a. dangerous mission, each receiving the D'.F.C. In the present war the squadron has lived up to its reputation, and before the exploit of September 15 it had earned one D.S.O. far outstanding work on the Dort-mwnd-Ems canal and 13 D.F.O.’s and five D.C.M.’s. Hannah is the first Scotsman to win the Victoria Cross since the outbreak of war.
