FISHING REGULATIONS.

— THE POSITION NEXT SEASON. The monthly meeting of the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society was held on Tuesday when the chairman (Mr JDonn) presided. Mr M. Orton (the recently-appointed Ranger-Curator) was introduced to the Council by tlie chairman. Mr Orton said he would bei pleased to show anyone interested over the Society’s hatchery during the next few weeks. Letters were received from the Otago and Southland Societies thanking the Society for copies of the letter received from the Minister of Internal Affairs regarding acclimatisation control. The Arthur’s Pass National Park Board wrote soliciting a grant, toward its funds. It was decided to take no action. The chairman reported that there were now half a million brown trout eggs in the hatchery, and the first lot of eggs was expected to hatch in about 10 days time. iHe stated that the curator considered the flow of water from the pumps inadequate for safety and it was decided to obtain a larger pump before next year’s operations. Local fishing regulations for next season were considered, and it was decided to again close Lake Emily, the fontinalis lake, for the season 1940-41. In view of the depletion of the rainbow trout in Lake Camp, it was decided to also close this lake during the coming season. A quantity of rainbow fry i would again bo liberated in this lake. Tt was also resolved to prohibit the use of bait-casting rods on Lakes Clearwater and Emma, and that notices to this effect be erected at these lakes. It was decided that the duration of the 1940-41 fishing season be ! the same as last year. ; . It was decided to approach the South , Canterbury Society with m view to exchanging ] 00,000 brown trout fry from ’ Lake Heron fish for a similar number of fry from South Canterbury river fish,
