HOLDING THE FORT.

Excitement, agitation and just indignation are not enough in 'fighting this war, writes Mr J. A. Spender of the ordeal facing Britain. We must match brains with brains, measure the danger and have orderly plans to meet it. To every man and woman falls his or her part, if it is only to keep cool, go on with the day’s work, however humble it may be, resist rumour and gossip, obey implicitly any authorised order which may come to them. To hold the fort may in the most literal sense be the portion of the British people in the days that are coming—to hold it not for themselves alone, but for the whole world. Let us not doubt for a moment that they will be equal to it.
