BALING WIRE.

QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT. (Special to‘the “Guardian.”) WELLINGTON, July 31. 9 Two questions relating to the supply of steel, and of baling wire, were answered in the* House of Representatives by the Minister of Customs (tile Hon. W. Nash). It was stated by Mr T. P. Burnett (National, Temuka) that two firms in Christchurch and Ashburton bad been refused licences to import baling wire, and be asked that the decision bet reviewed in the interest of primary industry.

Mr Nash replied that the question was really answered by the fact that licences were current for the importation of over 1000 tons of baling; wire, aud arrangements had beein made in Australia for expediting delivery. As for the supply of steel for building purposes, he said that the Hon. 3>. G. Sullivan, during his visit to Australia, had made arrangements with the .Commonwealth Government for suitable supplies, and licences had been issued to the manufacturers’ agents. Everything was being done to urge on the Commonwealth Government and manufacturers the necessity of giving expedition to New Zealand orders.
