MAORI MAN IN HOSPITAL.

(Per Press Association). WHANGAREI, This Day

Admitted to the Kawakawa Hospital last evening, suffering from gunshots in the head, Manga Pera, aged 55, a single Maori, a labourer, living at the Kaikohe Native Settlement, is in a serious but not critical state to-day. It is alleged that on seeing two nieces, aged 18 and 21 respectively, talking to two youths he chased them home and thrashed them. On the girls going outside and waving to the youths, Pera, it is alleged, fired two shots at them, but missed. It is alleged that be returned to his house, whore lie received the injury.
