PATRIOTIC FUNDS

COMMUNITY SING AT HINDS. A community sing in aid of tho local Red Cross funds was held in the Centennial Hall at Hinds recently. There was a large attendance, and £l3 was raised as a result.

The sing was led by Arthur Olliver, with Miss M. McKeage and Miss B. Bell as pianiste. The following items were given: Solo, Mr S. T. Webster; radio statics, Messrs C. J. King, A. Wilson, R. A. Telfer and H. Bell; tap and ballet ranee, Miss Shaw; sidelights of the first sing, Mr H. Boll; humorous sketch, “Visit of tho King of the Water Race Fleet,” Messrs H. 801 l and H. J. Culling.

Honours were bestowed on several of tho loading citizens, as a mark of appreciation of their good-sportsmanship in assisting at sings. Mr Olliver congratulated the performers and trusted it would not he the last occasion on which a sing would he held.

Mr Bell (organiser) thanked those present, saying it was very gratifying indeed to have organised a sing with such excellent results. He also conveyed to those who contributed items and assisted generally tho sincere thanks of the Red Cross Committee. SEAFIELD RED CROSS SOCIAL. Thei Sea,field. sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society held its fortnightly euchre tournament in the Scafiold Hall with a sales table. The sum of £2 17s was raised. A competition was won by Mrs A. Bennison. The winners at cards were Nfi.SK J. Moorhead, Mrs G. Moorhead, Miss J. Mitchell, Messrs R. Mitchell, and G. Moorhead, jun. Mr R. Mitchell won in the play-off.
