SINKINGS BY U-BOATS.

STRONGLY PROTECTED CONVOY. CLAIM MADE BY GERMANS. (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) BERLIN, July 29. A communique' states: “A XJ-boat sank 18,750 tons out of a strongly-pro-tected convoy. Another sank a 6000-ton vessel off the British coast. In air battles over the Channel on Sunday we shot down six enemy ’planes, losing one of ours. “The British last night dropped only a few bombs on North Germany and West Germany. No damage was caused except by one that fell in the residential quarter of Hamburg. The efficiency of the Air Raid Precaution units minimised the damage.
