ENEMY'S LOSS IN RAIDS.

BOMBER IN THAME'S ESTUARY.

WOMAN KILLED' IN NORTH-EAST

(Received This Day, 1T.40 a.m.) LONDON, July 20. The Air Ministry communique issued to-night states: “Royal Air Force fighters this afternoon shot down an enemy bonubel* over the Channel coast and another in the Thames Estuary. “It is now confirmed that in the morning engagement' at )Dov<|r two enemy bombers were shot down by antiaircraff ifire,' in addition to those, shot down by fighters, making the total today .20.”—British Official Wireless. The Air Ministry announced that eight, enemy, bombers .and pe.ven fighters “Were shot down off the south-east-coast. One of ours was lost. .Bombs which fell on a- north-east town damaged a. school and killed a. woman. Several other houses were destroyed. Rpmbs fell in three places in the north-west of England.

Attempting a surprise attack on a south-east coast hanboxir, 30 Junkers and 87 dive-bombers, protected by 50 Mcsse rschmitts, got the worst of it in a half-hour battle. Strong fojrces of Spitfire's and Hurricanes swept up to meet the raiders and within a few minutes the air was filled with battling aircraft. So. harrassed were the Nazi airmein. that their bombing aim was spoiled and, in addition, 15 of them were destroyed at the cost of one British fighter missing and several damaged. Honours went equally to the Spitfires and the Hurricanes., Spitfires from one squadron destroying four Messerschmitts and one bomber, while Hurricanes from another squadron accounted for four bombers and one fighter. —rßritish Official 'Wireless.
