INTOXICATION IN MOTOR-CAR. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, June 13: A sentence of seven days’ imprisonment was passed in the Magistrate’s Court on Neil Gordon McLean, a medical practitioner, of Kaikolie, for being in a. state of intoxication, while in charge ,of a. motor-car on May 15. Five witnesses testified that the accused was under the influence of liquor) McLean, in evidence, said lie suffered from the effects of shellshock and denied being intoxicated, stating that he had only two drinks at the Wade Hotel after having driven the car from Auckland. ‘He said he was tired and went to lied. He. was awakened by a. policei sergeant, who put him through tests, and called a doctor to examine him. The Magistrate (Mr F. 11. Levien, S.M.) said he was satisfied that accused was, at the time, suffering from the effects of alcohol, and the Court could not distinguish between him and any other person. McLean’s driving licence was cancelled for 18 months.
