LABOUR FOR FARMS.
MEN FROM PUBLIC WORKS. 1000 OFFERS TO TRANSFER. (Per Press Association). > WELLINGTON, This Day. The Minister of Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb) stated to-day that there had been an excellent response from men on Public; Works to the Government’s appeal to transfer to farm work. Already 2000 men had been interviewed and of those 1000 ha ex pressed a keen desire to co-operate in every way and take farm uoi v. the 1000 no fewer than 500 had had farm experience. The number o arm vacancies notified to June 8 v> as • throughout the Dominion, 62 being for in Tp P a" : n,e„ on Public Works the Labour Department had the names o 460 men who were available, including 72 experienced workers. The Ministei said he was confident these numbers would be increased. He sincerely hoped that farmers would make an early arrangement to employ these men.
