THE WAR EFFORT.
LABOUR PARTY CONFERENCE. OVATION FOR THE PREMIER. WELLINGTON, This Day. Over 500 delegates attended a special one-day conference of the New Zealand Labour Party at the Town Hall today. The conference was called to discuss the joint statement on war policy issued by the National Council of the New Zealand Federation of Labour and the National Executive of the New Zealand Labour Party and for the purposes of endorsing the actions of the Government up to the present time and of giving the Government a free hand in the prosecution of New Zealand’s war effort in the future. The main feature of the proceedings this morning was a long address by the Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser), who, it is stated, was given an enthusiastic ovation. Mr J. Roberts, who presided, moved the adoption of the joint statement on war policy, the seconder being Dr. McMillan, M.P. Discussion is continuing. The conference ivill conclude to-night.
