ST. JAMES THEATRE. Screening to-night only and teaming James Cagney and George Raft, the screen’s supreme masters of menace, “Each Dawn I Die” is a tremendously exciting film—here’s dramatic dynamite with- thrills beyond measure —excitement beyond all precedent. It will be recalled that “EacE Dawn I Die” was booked in for Saturday only and with Monday a holiday a change of programme with “the Sun Never Sets” was announced —this original change will be adhered to still but the special matinee scheduled for Monday is now cancelled. The usual matinee will be held on Tuesday for “The Sun Never Sets.” . . “BACK TO SCHOOL DAYS” DANCE The Ashburton Imperial Harmonica Band’s “Back to Schooldays” dance last evening was well attended. A large number came in school uniforms, and all entered fully into the spirit of the function. Frizes for costumes were won as follows—Most original, Mrs Bruhns: bestdressed lady, Mis Stafford; best school girl, Miss White • most humourous girl, Miss Stevens: best school boy, Mr Bush; most humourous hoy, Mr Burrows. The judges were Mrs Frampton, Mrs Tansev and Miss.B. Stills. Monte Carlo dances were woix by Miss Kelly and Mr Stafford and Miss Shearer and Mr King. Music was supplied by the “Boys of the Fourth Form at Sit. Percys”. An extra was clayed by Mr Chapman. Mr G. Adamson was M.C.
