STUD RAMS.

FAIR AT CHRISTCHURCH. GOOD DEMAND IN SOME SECTIONS The annual ram fair of the Canter-, bury A. and P. Association concluded yesterday ivith the sale of stud sheep. Entries ivere of normal size and within the capacity of the buying strength, and there was comparative freedom in most sections from the succession of passings Avhich featured the flock sale the preceding day. Good sheep Avere in active demand, particularly in the tAVO main breeds —SouthdoAvns and Corriedales—Avliilo the medium to good classes of these met with a steady sale at reasonable prices. The tAVo main breeds which met AA'ith a slow sale Avere English Leieesters and Romneys. There Avas a long succession of passings of the former, and lower values than for some years had to be accepted for those sold. The poor sale of Romneys Avas not unexpected, as there are feAv studs of the breed in- the province, and outside breeders have their own sources of supply at home. There Avas a. total entry of ‘359, compared Avith 328 last year. In the Romney and .English Leicester sections competition was sloav and prices limited. Most of tlio Romneys failed to attract a single bid, and some from a distance Avere sold at single figures. Over the earlier part of the English Leicester sale passings were continuoits, but for the best of the well-known studs there was more spirited bidding. Borders failed to meet Avith a free disposal at auction, and the Lincoln sale was a succession of passings. The Southdown sale was an agreeable surprise, there being a keen demand. H. J. Andrews (Maheno) again topped the market in this section by securing 85 guineas for a, ram. There Avas a keen demand for Corriedales, the top price for the fair of 100 guineas being obtained by D. W. «T. Gould (Glenmark). Rams sold on behalf of J. H. Grigg made 57-J and 42J guineas. 1 The Range of Values. Values, compared with the stud sale of last year, were as folloAV:
