DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN, January 12. In Otago the wheat crops arei promising, but it will be some time, except. in 'isolated cases, before wheat is ready. In areas in Central Otago, however, cutting has, already been commenced and lines will be available ■shortly. Millers, although awaiting delivery of new wheat, have ample stocks in hand, 'most of it consisting of Australian. varieties with some New Zealand wheat for mixing. Fowl wheat continues firm, stocks available being light-, but sufficient to meet the demand. The present yalue is os 10c! a liushel, with small lots 6s 6d. As usual, at this time of thei year, very, little business is being transacted in oats, chief interest being in the new crop which l varies throughout the South Island. The southern districts ’possess good crops, but the total quantity available l will he short. The market is firm, with some merchants attempting to buy for delivery ahead in anticipation of short crops. The general quotation is now 3s 9cl f.o.b. for A Gartons, and 3s 6di for B Gartons. Algerians are always wanted for autumn sowing, crops being used for stock feeding during tliei winter and early spring. . Only small stocks of chaff arc held in the stores. _ The quantity available is sufficient, however, for the demand continues to be small. The market is firm at £5 os a ton, sacks extra, with small lots realising from £5 10s to £5 los. The demand on the> wholesale market for potatoes is very limited. Stocks are arriying in excess of requirements and sales gi’c difficult to effect- in fact, some clearances have.'been made as low as 6s per cwt. Owing to the dry weather potatoes coming in are small.
