TO GO OVERSEAS
THE FIRST NEW ZEALANDERS. A SMALL DRAFT OF PILOTS. DEPARTURE IN A FEW DAYS. fPer Press Association.' WELLINGTON, This Day. The imminent departure from New Zealand of the first draft of the Royal New Zealand Air Force to go overseas since the outbreak of war was announced by the Minister of Defence (thfc Hon. F. Jones). The draft will contain pilots who have completed their air training and gained their wings at Wigram. On arrival in England they will serve with the Royal Air Force. * They are at present on leave prior to their departure in the next few days. Mr Jones expressed regret that for obvious reasons it was not possible to mark the actual departure of the men by a suitable ceremony. Although the draft is a small one, it is of special significance because they will he the first draft of New Zealanders to leave for overseas service since the war began. The draft will include three Wellington men, one of whom is a son of MajorrGeneral J. E. Duigan (Chief of the General Staff). The others are Messrs C. A. Pownall and R. C. F. Scott.
