“Education should not. be regarded as something imposed on the people from above by the Government,’’ said the Hon. H. G. R. Mason (AttorneyGeneral and Acting, Minister of Education) when speaking at a reunion at the Pukekohe Primary School, reports the “New Zealand Herald.” Local enthusiasm, he explained, Was a very important factor in determining what the Government spent on education in any particular district, and this policy had been followed by successive parties in power. It thus behoved the people to take a lively interest in the question of the extent to which educational facilities should he provided for their children.
