The Marquess of the new British Ambassador to America, onarrival in New York said:— "British public opinion is consolidated in the conviction that unless resistance is made to any further attempt to remake the map of Europe by violence and destruction of the independence of free nation international life will become intolerable. The last remnants of reason, justice and good faith as governing. factors will disappear, and the reign of tooth and claw of the jungle will take their place. Public opinion is not averse from change by revision. On the contrary, it feels that there can he no stable peace or prosperity for the nations unless, a possible needed revision he made hv pacific means, hut it also fools that the day has come to end the successful use of, war as an instrument of imperialist policy. The British Government, Parliament, and people are now united and resolute in resisting aggression as the first step to restoring the reign of principle in international affairs.”
