GOLF. NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. FINAL FOR PROFESSIONALS. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON. This Day. With the final oi' the Now Zealand professional golf championship over .‘lO holes, and two semi-final matches for the amateur title, public interest in the tournament at Miramar reached its climax to-day. The amateur title, the last event on the programme will- he decided to-mor-row. Indications are for fine weather, but there are prospects of a northerly wind to the test the players. Conditions to-day are fairly calm, with the sun hidden by haze and clouds, and a. north-westerly breeze.

The play of the new open champion, Hornabrook, is being followed with interest after his sensational golf in the eliminating rounds. In the professional championship, after a few uncertain shots in the first few holes, Murray turned on the pressure against Galloway, whose driving went astray under the strain and whose putting was much inferior to Murray’s. Murray went round in '67, which is seven under scratch, and finished the morning round five up on Galloway. Features of Murray’s game were his long drives, his low hit approaches to the greens and his steady putting. Apart from a 60-footer, he sank 16 and 20 foot putts. Results:—• Amateur Championship.
