COMPULSORY SERVICE.
THE POLICY IN AUSTRALIA. FOR HOME DEFENCE ONLY. CANBERRA, November 15. In-a speech "on the Commonwealth’s war policy, in the House of Representatives, the P)rime Minister (Mr R. G. Menzies) again emphasised that there was no intention of introducing conscription for overseas service. “We are definitely pledged against it,” he said, “but for many years the law has imposed upon all citizens of a certain age the obligation to serve Australia, in time- of war/’ Mr Menzies added: “We have decided to keep the militia forces -at an adequately trained strength of'not less than 75,000, for which compulsory military training will be, introduced ill January. “Tho reason for which, we entered the war will not be lightly abandoned. The freedom and equity for which wo are fighting will be freedom -and equity for the Germans as well ns for ourselves.”
