JUNIOR SECTION.
ASHBURTON SILVER BAND. TO TAKE PART IN PUBLIC CONCERT. For the first time-in 20 .years, - junior bandsmen of the Ashburton Silver Band will take part in a concert to bo given in the Domain next Sunday. Tt is hoped that next Sunday’s.appearance will be the commencement of a series of performances by the junior band, the members of which will thus gain the necessary confidence and experience to enable them to compete- at nextyear’s provincial contest in the C grade section.
During fhe last three yeafs/ J Mr George Whiting has undertaken the work of training the junior members, and his work has been' of inestimable value to the senior band in? providing capable players to fill the , vacancies which have arisen from time to time. The loss of players has been fairly heavy of late, eight playing members being transferred to other towns since the championship contest last February.
