MOTHERS IN GERMANY. MESSAGE: OF CONSOLATION. CALL FOR FURTHER; SACRIFICE. (United Press Association(Received This Day, 1.20 0.m.) LONDON, October 1. Herr Hess (deputy for the Fulirer), broadcasting from Hamburg, addressed a message of consolation to “all mothers in Germany.” He said the number killed, Avounded or missing Avas small compared Avith the successes for it aatis a million-strong army of Polish soldiers that England sent to invade Germany. “Never in the world’s history has such success been achieved Avith so little loss,” said Herr Hess. “We are proud of you mothers because in this first campaign of National Socialism you .proved yourselves Avorthy of your husbands and brothers. Crosses of honour are being distributed to-day to the. mothers and in giving them we thank all German Avomen Avho served their people. We thank most- those who gave children to Germany because they created the foundation of the greatness of the neAV Reich.” After calling on the mothers for rcneAved fortitude and sacrifice Herr Hess said: “Britain Avill never achieve her aim of destroying the German people by starving Avomen and children. Britain is face to face Avith National Socialist Germany. Perhaps she is not aware of the possibilities of our utilising Russia’s mineral resources. There are many things Britain lias hitherto not believed. She did not believe that National 'Socialism would make Germany rise again, that it Avould abolish unemployment, or that it would rearm Germany. But to-day she does. One day, provided she does not make peace beforehand, Britain Avill bolieA 7 e it is impossible to starve us, especially as Russia is Avith us.”
