HOCKEY.
MATCHES ON SATURDAY. Two matches with teams from the Belfast Ladies’ Hockey Club were played by members of the Ashburton Women’s Hockey Association at Ashburton on Saturday. Both matches provided bright and interesting play, Ashburton running out the winners in each game. The ground was in excellent order and although the visitors were beaten, they .produced play of a high standard. The Ashburton teams were selected from clubs near the town. At the conclusion of the game the visitors were entertained to afternoon tea when the wish was expressed that the matches might become an annual fixture. The Ashburton teams were invited to visit Belfast next year.
