VISITORS FROM CHRISTCHURCH. DEBATE ON “TRIAL BY JURY.” “That trial by jury should be abolished,” Avas the subject of the debate betAveen the Ashburton Catholic ..Club and the St. Joseph’s Old Boys’ Association, Christchurch:, last evening, when the local club held another successful open night. The A’isiting team, who took the affirmative Avon by 192, points to 190. The leader Avas Mr W. Lawson and the other speaker Mr J. Hood. Ashburton was represented by Messrs. R. G. Ross (leader) and M. L. Crequer. The judge Avas Father G. Daly. Members of the St. Joseph’s Association entertained for the remainder of the eA r ening Avith songs, instrumental and elocutionary items. There was a large attendance ofparishioners.
