WEEK-END CLOSING.
GARAGE AND SERVICE STATION, (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, September 7. ’ Petrol stations and garages are to. be closed on Saturdays at 1 p.m. and remain closed on Sundays. This decision, together with other restrictions-, were adopted at a further combined meetings of the executives of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Garage Proprietors’ Association nnd the Christchurch- Petrol Resellers’ Association held this morning. Mr G. Ecroyd presided. The meeting unanimously resolved to recommend to all members of both associations and other resellers to close their stations at 6 p.m. on week-days, except on the late shopping night, when they, will remain open till 9 o’clock, and to close at 1 p.m. oil Saturday till Monday morning. / This recommendation, which is to. come into force on Saturday next, was adopted as a temporary measure in view of the abnormal conditions prevailing at present in the industry. The meeting further decided to leave the question of opening hours ‘of stations to individual members.
