INNOCENT SUFFER
DELIBERATE ATTACK. AMBASSADOR’S VILLA BOMBED. AMERICANS’ NARROW ESCAPE. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 1.40 p.m.) NEW YORK, September 3. The Warsaw correspondent of the United Press of America states that the United States Ambassador (Mr Biddle), his wife and daughter had a narrow escape when a German ‘plane bombed Mr Biddle’s suburban villa. The United States Embassy said it appeared to have been a deliberate attack, since the bombs were released in a low-power dive. Mr Biddle and his family were not injured. The villa was partially unroofed, the windows shattered, and an adjoining villa destroyed. The Ambassador has cabled a report to President Roosevelt, confirming the United Press report. GERMANS REPORT CAPTURE. A (Received This Day, 1.25 p.m.) BERLIN, September 3. The town of Beirend has been captured.
