LAND FOR MARKET GARDENS. KUKU SETTLERS’ RESOLUTION. (Per Press Association.) * ; ; LEVIN, This Day.
A meeting of Ohau and Kuku settlers, after discussing the action of the Government in taking land at Kuku for the settlement of market gardeners recently dispossessed of their properties in the Hutt Valley, passed a resolution of protest and declared ~their intention to fight the proclamation with every means in their power.
The resolution expressed the opinion that the lands under proclamation were serving a greater cause. in s the production of milk for the, city schools than they would be in growing vegetables. One speaker said, that the Kuku Dairy Factory could not operate economically if the proclamation-wore carried out. - :
Maori speakers said they .were(prepared to oppose the,proclamation to the extent of going to the Privy Council. A ’resolution of protest was also passed by a meeting of the Manakau Farmers’ Union. .. >v* ~ 4
