ASHBURTON TROTTING CLUB. MEETING AT ADDINGTON TO-MORROW. THE FIELDS REVIEWED. / The Ashburton Trotting Club’s autumn meeting, which will bo held at Addington course to-morrow will attract racegoers from all over the province. The local contingent will have to travel by car or train to this meeting but any inconvenience caused by such arrangement will be amply repaid' in future by the excellent accommodation which will be at their disposal at later fixtures on the Ashburton course. A, special train will leave Ashburton at 9.42 a.m. and returning will leave Christchurch at 6.30 p.m. and excursion fares will be charged for those travelling on this train. The secretary (Mr J. R. Nicoll) will as usual he in charge of the meeting and it can be confidently expected that the fixture will be conducted in the excellent manner which has characterised all Ashburton meetings. Totalisator investments will bo on the win-and-place system and patrons attending will be assured of an excellent day’s sport on one of the fastest tracks in the Dominion. The following is a review of the fields:— Alienton Handicap. This event for unhoppled trotters is always a big gamble, for the horses entered, are for the most part, novices and are likely to contain some surprises. However, on form shown, Judgement is thf only one to stand out, and Reta’s Own is an improver who shows a lot of promise. Of the rest Lady Ede is about the best bet, and the placings should include Judgement, Reta’s Own, Lady Ede. > Improvers’ Handicap. In this race for two-mile -maidens finds another field in which form is missing. Horses showing form lately include Garment, Captain Potts, Straight, Grattanita and Loyal Rey. Even among these there is nothing to show that they will see the two‘miles out, and unless something outstanding comes forward the tussle in the straight should bo fought among Garment, Loyal Rey, Straight. New Zealand Futurity Stakes. Special interest centres in this race as it will help to decide the question of three-year-old supremacy. At present Aldershot is a warm favourite and will go out at a short price to-morrow. But although this horse is outstanding, it must be remembered that such was the case in the iSapling Stakes and Champion Stakes when Bedrock and Nelson Eddy beat him respectively. Also Coquette ran second in the Champion Stakes, and cannot be overlooked here as Aldershot is giving her .24 yards, and this makes her chances very roseate. Shadow Boy on his recent form is another possibility. Also Special Edition is a horse that is improving with age and has always been handy in the classics and has a chance of being in front at the finish. Honestus, Braw Lass, Busted Flush and Wainoni Girl are all improvers and are outside possibilities, but the final choice will b£ Aldershot, Coquette, Special Edition. Durbar Handicap. This race is a very open one and as there is a number of young and improving horses entered it is an interesting problem for backers. Colonel Grattan will carry a large amount of support and he is not likely to be out of the money. Ferry Post, after a spell, is fit and well and in C. S. Donald’s charge he commands respect. Another youngster in Horsepower has had more than his share of hard luelc lately ancl lie may make amends in this event. Silver Guy is a stayer and has speed but his. beginning is not. always the best, but he has only to move off correctly to be there at the finish. Sandusky is a horse that can always be depended upon to run a solid race and Our War, another horse from the north, is regarded as a good stayer and possibly these Aucklanders may beat the southerners. Other possibilities include Bonny Azure, Gallant Knight, Marsceres and the trotter Sea Gift. Rut the finish may bo contested by Colonel Grattan, Ferry Post, Horsepower. Autumn Handicap. Chatmos won his last race in impressive style and he will have every chance to repeat his performance again from the limit. Other recent winners are Pursuit, Stormtost and Don Acron, while Petite and Pecunia are also shaping well. Rowi and Four Square are also capable of running well over this distance and may surprise. Of the field the public will most likely decide on Chatmos, Stormtost, Don Acron. . Stewards’ Handicap. If Mohican will only put his best foot forward here he would be hard to beat, but on performance Escalado looks a better proposition. Violet Wrack and Gentleman Joe have recent winning

performances to recommend them, while Listowel and Sagamore are quite capable of being in the money. The backmarkers will have little chance with the improving horses oft" the front, and the final choice may bo Escalado, Mohican, Gentleman Joe. Harvest Handicap. Queen’s County is now in, winning form and should bo able to lead tho field home in this event. Dancing Pirate and Black Surprise are two other recent winners and should make it very warm • for Queen’s County. Kilrea, Evora and Hidden Charm are three possibilities that might turn the tables on the favourites, but the public will most likely favour Queen’s County, Black Surprise, Dancing Pirate. Rakaia Handicap. In the final race punters will be trying to recover their losses and it will he a heavy betting race, and they will not look much further than Attain. Loyal Pat, Parauri and Salalon are the next best in regards to form and one of these might be table to turn the tables on the favourite. Acuity is also a possibility. Van Derby is set a hard task to give 84 yards to the frontmarkers and will probably have to do record time to win. Most of tho money will be on the following Attain, Loyal Pat, Parauri.
