Shots were fired by the police and five hoses were used. in an attempt to subdue 500 rioting fruit-pickers in Redcliffs. For more than two hours police, townspeople and bloekholders struggled -vtith the pickers. It is believed a brawl among several pickers- led to the riot, and a general fight began. At one stage 2000 persd)is;?vei’!e. struggling in the.streets. The firing of shots and heavy. stream s of water from the hoses dispersed the miob.
