(Mr W. H. Sarney left to-day for Wanganui; He will return, at the end of the week. ; Mr W. Bryant will leave to-morrow, for a holiday in the North Island. He will be away for two weeks and will visit Pahiatua and Feilding. Mr R. C. Major (Town Clerk) and Mrs Major returned to Ashburton on Saturday from Dunedin, where Mr Major attended the Municipal Conference. The Mayor and Mayoress (Dr. G. I. Miller and Mrs Miller), who have been in Dunedin for the Municipal Conference last week, left Dunedin on Saturday on- a motor tour of the Southern Lakes district. Mrs F. Johnson, of Seafield, president of the Mid-Canterbury Provincial Executive of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, will attend a meeting of tne Advisory Board of' the Dominion Executive at Dunedin on Wednesday and Thursday. Tribute to the high service given to the Ashburton Public Hospital by Mr W. T. Lill, who was for many years a member of the Hospital Board and its chairmen for a term, was paid at the meeting of the Board this morning. The chairman (Mr W. G. Gallagher) moved that the (Board place on record its regret at tlfs death of Mir Lill and express to his family its sympathy in their bereavement. Mr Gallagher said that Mr Lill had given long and faithful service to the community. . Dr. A. J. Mason, who has been Medical Superintendent of the Ashburton Public Hospital for the last 51 sears, was to-day granted leave of absence without salary for about a year to visit England for post graduate study. Dr. Mason will leave in June. He hopes to visit the Continent and Scandinavia. ■„ D'r. Mason’s place will be taken by Dr. J. Lannon, F.R.C.S., Eng., who is at present in London. Dr Lannon has been recommended by Mr Cecil Joll, F.R.C.S., and Mr Percival Cole, F.R.C.S., two well-known London surgeons.
