ASHBURTON CLUB’S EVENTS. PROMINENT ATHLETES COMPETE. f - BOOT’S FAREWF.LT, RUN. Athletes of championship class took part in tho annual sports meeting of the Ashburton Amateur Athletic club, held on the Domain Oval this afternoon under excellent conditions. Several prominent Canterbury runners were seen in action, while the appearance of V. P. Boot, who has been transferred to Wellington, and who came to Ashburton especially for the meeting, caused a great deal of interest. It was the first time the New Zealand Empire Games champion has - run in Ashburton since his return from Australia, where he recently raced with so much success. This was Boot’s final running for the club, for he will return to Wellington almost immediately. Such well-known women runners as Misses Shona Oliphant (the New Zealand title-holder), K. Callinan (sprinter) and D. Strachan provided plenty of athletic thrills for the large number of spectators, who took advantage of the bright, sunny afternoon to witness a long and very interesting programme of sports events.
