Following an inquiry to-day into alleged interference in the Waipapfi Hack Handicap, the last race on the first day, Ireland, rider of Bumble, was suspended for two months for careless riding. Although Don Walla was withdrawn from the Waiheke Handicap, at Ep-, som on Saturday, after the. closing of the totalisator, and was therefore officially a starter, the investments on him were returned by the Auckland Trotting Club. After the withdrawal the following official statement of the position was made in the presence of the president, Mr E. G. Bridgens: “No horse is allowed to go to the post with an assistant other than the starter’s assistant excepting with the permission of the stewards. Special permission was given for a man to go to the post with Don Walla, but at the barrier the starter refused permission for an attendant to act because he had not. been officially notified. He sent N. Cunningham-the owner-driver, to the Stipendiary Steward to get permission. This was immediately forthcoming but Cunningham elected" to withdraw his •horse. The totalisator having been closed, no withdrawal of moneys on the horse could be permitted. The .club made an announcement before the race that investments would lie refunded in full. The club is therefore put to the loss of £301.” An inquiry will be held on Monday.
