“I did not intend to kill Dr. Von Rath, and I am sorry he is dead,” Grynszpan told the examining Magistrate, “hut he called me Jewish filth, and I fired blindly. It was the first time I had ever used a revolver.” The accused said he had been particularly upset by articles in the newspapers.
