AUSTIN CARS

NEW SEASON’S MODELS.

MANY IMPROVEMENTS. Following their recent price reductions, the Austin Motor Company, Ltd., now announces a number ot new improvements which have been in,or porn tod in their new season s mo-.eis. The most important of these innovations is a. now design of engine which adopts an aluminium cylindei neari with larger inlet valves, giving higher compression ratios, and an improved induction system. This has insured a much higher "power output, while reducing the fuel consumption. Applied to the various models th r e ratings are as follows: —

Austin “10” Cambridge Saloon was 27 8.H.P., now 32 B.H.P. Austin “12” Ascot Saloon was 33 8.H.P., now 42 B.H.P.

Austin “14/16” Goodwood Saloon was 3S 8.H.P., now 46 B.H.P. Austin “18” Windsor Saloon, was 50 8.H.P., now 65 B.H.P.

In order to cope with this increased power output a special high-duty rear axle with larger hearings and shafts has been standardised and a springdrive dutch incorporated. Equally interesting is the introduction of piston-tvpe shock absorbers, which improve the riding comfort and road-holding qualities of the car, and the mounting of a new type pistol-grip handbrake under the scuttle. Increased space for luggage has been achieved by increasing the breadth and height of the “boot”; access to and from tbe back seats in the “10” has been made easier by hinged backs to the front seats, while oil the “12” and “14-16” models the doors have been m a die higher and wider in dimensions. Another instance where accessibility has been improved is in the batteries, which are now equipped with slidingpanel covers. Ease of refuelling has also* been increased by a. new arrangement of the air-vent pipe. These new features should further enhance the Austin reputation for 'excellence of workmanship and for dependable and economical performance and, following so closely on the price reductions, should make, them a more popular favourite than ever with the motoring public.
