WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
ASHBURTON DISTRICT MEETS. The monthly meeting of the Ashbdrton District Women’s Institute was held yesterday, November 2d, Mrs D. A. Morgan presiding over a good attendance.
The meeting opened with the singing of the Institute Ode. One new member was welcomed.
Mrs D. Fitzgerald was elected delegate to the meeting of the Ashburton branch committee ol New Zealand Crippled Children Society to be held on December 2. A letter was received from the MidCanterbury Federation with reference to the proposed drama festival next April.
A letter was received from Mr D. J. Shea, manager of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company, stating that the same prizes would he donated lor the bay competition at the flower show next year. Alemhers wort' reminded that the next meeting on December 9 would take the form of a Christmas party. Airs A. Hayston was appointed representative of the Institute jon the Borough School sub-committee of the Ashburton Group of the Primary Schools Agricultural Club movement. Airs Hillier and Airs Aleaclem were appointed sick visitors. Hostesses were Alesdames H. McLean, W. Aliller, J. E. Meaclem, Alaeklan, R. S. AlcKeage, £. S. Walker, J. T. Corbitt, Alisses McvDowelL and AEecking. Competitions:—Sponge roll, Airs W. Sed'cole; article made from odd pieces of wool. Airs G. Breeze 1; specimen bloom, Airs A. Hayston 1 ; specimen bloom, Afrs F. Phillips 1.
