FARMERS’ TOUR
THROUGH THE KAWARAU GORGE TRIP ON LAKE WAKATIPU. RAIN FALLS THIS MORNING. (From Our Own Reporter.) QUEENSTOWN, This Day. The inspection of farms by the Ashburton farmers’ touring party was confined to a comparatively small area yesterday, and most of the day was spent in seeing places of interest along tho Kawarau River between Cromwell and
Queenstown. The journey through the Kawarau Gorge was full of interest for the visitors and Queenstown was reached about 3.30, when the visitors went for a launch trip on Lake Wakatipu. The first trip in the morning took tho party near Pisa Station, where the Government experimental grass area was inspected. Later they saw construction work on a now bridge of immense size, said to he the largest in Australasia. Skirting Lake Hayes, the party came on to their destination and saw the Kawarau Gorge dam. In the afternoon they spent two hours on Lake Wakatipu. , Heavy lain is falling this morning, and there is very limited visibility for tho trip over the Crown Range to Pembroke.
The party will reach Ashburton tomorrow evening.
