MURDER OF AN OLD WOMAN.
DICTOGRAPH RECORD IN
EVIDENCE.
(United Press Association —Copyright.) (Received This Day, 1.5 p.m.) MONTREAL,( Nov. 24. A message from Dauphin (Manitoba) states that, convicted. through a dictograph hidden in a cell, Peter Kortens, Daniel Prytuk, and Daniel Kanuka, have been sentenced to death by hanging for the fatal beating of a farm woman, Anna Cottick, aged 81, during a burglary, after her husband had been clubbed into unconsciousness. This is the first time in Manitoba that dictograph records have been admitted as evidence.
The police listened in while accused discussed the crime, agreeing they should not have done it. A police stenographer recorded every word. Ensuring accuracy another stenographer made a similar recording in an adjoining room.
